YNP News: Rim Fire Announcement - Highway SR-120 Reopens Today Into Yosemite #CaFire

Road opens at Noon on Friday September 6

Highway SR-120 Opening Today at 12pm

State Route 120 (SR-120) from Groveland CA into Yosemite National Park will reopen to all vehicular traffic at noon Friday September 6 2013.

Visitors will have full access to Yosemite Valley via SR-120. However due to continued fire activity in the area stopping along the roadway is strictly prohibited. The public is advised to use extreme caution as firefighting activities continue in this area.

Cherry Lake Road Evergreen Road Old Yosemite Road Harden Flat and all other secondary roads and trailheads off of SR-120 remain closed.

SR-120 (Tioga Road) remains closed from Crane Flat to White Wolf within Yosemite National Park. Park visitors can access the Tuolumne Meadows area from SR-395 via the parks east entrance at Tioga Pass.

battling 10 active major wildfires across California. 
Full containment on the Spring Peak Fire that burned into California near Bodie State Park in Mono County.

Rim Fire’s continues growth near Yosemite National Park and historic gold country towns of California, this morning becoming the 7th largest wildfire in California’s recorded history.
  • 3,700 firefighters 
  • 4,500 homes threatened remained threatened along the Hwy 108 corridor in Tuolumne County. 
  • Majority of the large wildfires are burning on federal land, CAL FIRE and local fire 
    departments continue to support the US Forest Service in their battle.
Weather: A low pressure system off the coast could bring some moisture along the Sierra, however most areas in Northern California could continue to see southwest winds. If the weather system moves onshore, it could bring some unseasonably cool conditions, which help aid firefighters in their containment efforts.
 In Southern California rainfall is likely to continue over the mountains and deserts.
