Update 9-7 0730: 35,985 acres, 66% contained. Expected containment 09/15/2013. Johnson, NORCAL 2.Resources continued to patrol the Salmon River Road, mop up to 300 ft. and monitor fire in Nordheimer drainage. Suppression repair was implemented where appropriate. Fire continued to where pockets of heavy dead fuels are burning in the China and Granite Creek drainages. No movement of fire outside of the control lines is anticipated.
Update 9-6 0730: 35,915 acres, 66% contained. Expected containment 09/15/2013. Johnson, NORCAL 2 Fire will have minimal movement or spread. Behind the low pressure, a dry offshore pattern is expected into Friday returning the area to warmer temperatures, low RH, and north/east winds. The alignment of the topography will further reduce the effect of these winds, which are predicted to be light. Previous high moisture conditions will need several operational periods to dry in order to change fire behavior, therefore moderating any effects of a short term dry/north wind condition. Fire will continue to have minimal movement/spread. A small amount of fire growth is expected in Division H/G where pockets of heavy fuels continue to burn in the China and Granite Creek drainages. Smoldering and creeping is expected to continue in Granite and China Creek drainages during a shortened burn period. No movement of fire outside of the control lines is anticipated. Demob continues as resources time out.
Update 9-5 1930: 35,892 acres, 66% contained. Expected containment 9/15. Johnson, NORCAL 2. Smoldering and creeping in isolated pockets of fuel accumulations well inside containment areas. There was a small amount of fire growth in Divs H/G where pockets of heavy fuels continue to burn in the China and Granite drainages. No movement of fire outside of the control lines is anticipated.
Update 9-1 1730: 36,146 acres, 45% contained. Smoldering and creeping continues in isolated fuel accumulations. Interior pockets of vegetation will continue to burn. Low intensity fire continues to back in Granite Creek (Butler). Substantial overnight humidity recoveries decreased fire activity and shortened burn period.
Update 9-1 0700: 36,146 acres, 45% contained. IMT2, NORCAL Team 2 (Johnson): Smoldering and creeping continues in isolated fuel accumulations. Good humidity recoveries decreased fire activity and shortened burn period. Mop up, patrol and monitoring of fire spread in all divisions continued until completion of the swing shift resources at 0000 hrs.
Update 8-31 0900: IMT2, NORCAL Team 2 (Johnson) Complex includes:
-CA-SRF-Butler Fire21,201 acres, 45% contained. Expected containment 09/15/2013. Isolated pockets of retained heat will continue to smolder in drainages with heavy fuel accumulations. Crews continued with suppression repair and mop up operations.
-CA-KNF-Salmon River Complex14,809 acres, 100% contained.

CA-KNF-#LightningFires most of the 16 new #wildfires are less than one acre in Siskiyou County #CaFires

8-13-13 Update on 16 new Lightning fires
Lightning strikes were clustered in the south end of Scott Valley and throughout Butte Valley.athttp://calfire.blogspot.com/2013/08/ca-knf-lightningfires-16-new-klamath.html
.----------------------------------------
Klamath National Forest 23 recorded fires after more than 1,400 lightning strikes

US Forest Service recorded more than 1,400 lightning strikes in the previous 24 hours that caused 23 fires in the Klamath National Forest today.

Weather predictions call for a small chance of thunderstorms again today, mostly centered in Siskiyou and Modoc Counties, closer to the Oregon border this time. Cooler, drier, windier conditions will follow. Two air patrols will fly today, and all the lookouts are up. Holdover fires are likely. Additional resources from other units will “stage” on the KNF in anticipation of more fires. Needs are being met by north State firefighting resources so far.

Most of the forest fires are less than one acre - the largest is 3.5 acres southwest of Cottonwood Peak, about five miles northwest of the merger of Interstate 5 and Highway 96.

US Forest Service crews are making good progress, though there is a chance of thunderstorms in Siskiyou County tonight.
KNF Fires

Lime fire – 3-4 acres, southwest of Cottonwood Peak. Two helitack and eight smokejumpers were working on it yesterday evening (26-July). Happy Camp Crew 2 (20 people) is heading there today to replace the 10 personnel currently there. Terrain is steep, brushy, rocky. Crews are making good progress.

Michigan fire – on Goosenest Mountain, ¼ acre, staffed, making good progress.

Cheyne fire - spot fire, now controlled.

Box fire – near Box Camp Saddle, about 100 yards into the Marble Mountain Wilderness. One acre, staffed, crews making good progress, more resources headed their way to help.

Cottonwood - handled by CAL FIRE
